chapter522
Lydia lifted an eyebrow, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Oh? And how exactly are you planning to ruin me?"
Milana let out a cold laugh. "You did surgery on Luke and then just walked away. You didn't even check up on Sandy. With that kind of attitude, how do you deserve to be Miracle Hands' apprentice?"
Lydia just stared at her, completely unimpressed. "That's your big accusation?"
It was obvious Milana was just looking for something to complain about. Lydia hadn't followed up herself, sure, but she'd made sure Dr. Hady was handling it.
Don't get too full of yourself, Milana snapped. Just because you're Miracle Hands' student doesn't mean you can act like you're better than everyone. Listen up. Sandy applied to Capital Med School too, and she got in. You two are going to be classmates."
Lydia just shrugged. "And?"
After her own surgery, Sandy finally understood how amazing real medical skills could be. Lydia always strutted around, lording her status as Miracle Hands' apprentice over everyone, especially at the hospital.
But now that Grandma knew Miracle Hands and Sandy got into Capital Med School, Sandy figured she could get Grandma to help her out. Maybe Miracle Hands would take her as a student too. Then she'd be on Lydia's level, and with her brains, she thought she could even surpass her.
"Lydia, don't get so cocky. One day, I'll definitely beat you," Sandy announced, her tone full of pride.
Lydia wasn't the only one who looked at Sandy like she'd lost her mind. Even Connor shot her a look that screamed, Are you serious?
Lydia couldn't help but wonder if losing a kidney really did mess with someone's brain.
"Talk is cheap," Lydia said, her voice easy and a little mocking. "If you want to surpass me, go ahead and do it. Until then, let's get down to business."
When Lydia's gaze landed back on Jenson and Milana, they both flinched.
"Lydia! How could you be so ungrateful? No matter what, we're still your adoptive parents," Jenson protested, his face turning red with anger.
Ever since they kicked Lydia out of
the Smith family, she'd made them slap themselves or kneel in apology every time they met. Last time at the church they'd knelt until their foreheads bled and actually passed out, ending up in the hospital with concussions.
All of that, Jenson fumed, was Lydia's doing.
You don't deserve that title, Lydia said, her voice icy. Hurry up and slap yourselves, then get out. I have better things to do than waste time on you."
She looked at them as if they were nothing, her expression cold and bored.
Jenson jabbed a finger at her, his hand trembling. "You... you..."
"What about me?" Lydia shot back, her tone even colder. "Did you think about the consequences when you attacked Grandma?"
A hundred slaps was just the start.
"Or you could have your precious daughter do it for you. Last time she took your punishment, her face was almost ruined," Lydia added, not missing a chance to stir up more trouble.
Jenson and Milana looked like they might explode from sheer frustration.
Lydia really knew how to push their buttons.
Sandy, hearing this, just looked away, her face suddenly dark.
She wasn't that naive girl anymore. When she'd first come back to the Smith family, she'd been all in, thinking they actually cared about her But the truth? They only wanted
her for her kidney.
"I just got out of the hospital today. I have no energy. They should do it themselves: Anyway, it's they who laid a hand on Grandma. I've always respected Grandma. Whoever messed up should be the one to pay "Sandy said, her voice calm and distant.
Jenson and Milana could only curse Sandy in their heads.
