chapter279
Lucinda sat there, looking as confident as ever, like she'd already snagged the top spot on the exams.
"Your results aren't out yet?" Cameron and Kylie both looked at her, surprised.
Lucinda shook her head. "Not yet."
Kylie's eyes lit up with excitement. "That means you must have done really well this time, Lucinda. When your brothers took their exams, their results were announced late too. They all ended up being the top scorers in the Capital!"
Hearing that, Lucinda puffed up with pride, though she tried to play it cool. "Mom, I could never compare to my brothers. Honestly, I just hope I don't embarrass you." She shot them a playful wink and stuck out her tongue for good measure.
Cameron laughed. "You don't have to compare yourself to them. It's great if you do well, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. Don't stress yourself out.
Lucinda nodded, looking like the perfect, obedient daughter. Got it.
Then she glanced over at Lydia, who had been quietly eating her food and not joining the conversation.
Lydia, did your results come out yet? Lucinda asked, her tone innocent on the surface.
In Lucinda's mind, Lydia was obviously avoiding the topic because she hadn't done well. It made sense to her. How could some rural school even come close to what the Capital's top schools offered? Lucinda had already checked into Lydia's grades and knew she was always near the bottom of her class. She would be lucky to even get into a community college.
The more Lucinda thought about it, the more smug she felt. There was just no comparison. Lydia was nothing but a country bumpkin.
Cameron and Kylie, turned to Lydia too. "Lydia, are your results out yet?"
Garrett's eyes flickered. "Mom, you probably don't know, but Lydia already has a medical license at the same level as mine. The final exam results really aren't that important for her."
For most people, these exams would decide their future and help them get into a good university, setting them up for a better life. But Lydia was already at the top of the medical field. For her, the exams were just a formality. The scores didn't matter at all.
Cameron and Kylie knew Lydia was talented, but they hadn't realized she'd reached the same level as Garrett.
"Oh my gosh, Lydia, how are you so incredible?" Kylie said, her voice full of genuine pride. "Why didn't you ever tell us you've achieved so much?"
Cameron let out a loud, happy laugh. "That's our girl! She's got the same genius genes as her brothers."
He was just excited, but those words stung Lucinda. What did he mean by "our girl"? Was she, Lucinda, not

Lucinda forced a sweet smile. Yeah, Lydia's really amazing. It's just too bad I don't know anything about medicine, or I'd love to learn from her."
Garrett looked at her, a little amused. You might not know medicine, but you could always ask Lydia about her study habits. She's got to have some pretty impressive methods."
Lucinda kept up her act. "That's true, Garrett. If Lydia's study methods are that good, her exam results must be seriously impressive too."
