Chapter 278

chapter278

Lucinda could hardly believe it. She stared at Connor, completely stunned.

Was she hearing this right? Was Connor actually talking to her?

"Connor, did you need something?" Lucinda's voice came out soft and sweet, a little shy, almost like she was trying to charm him without even meaning to.

Connor's reply was cool, nearly icy. "I heard your real parents are the White family in West City. Don't you plan to go visit them at all?"

Lucinda hadn't expected that at all. For a second, her face lost all its color and she just froze, unable to think of a single thing to say.

Connor's words were cutting, but simple. Lucinda was always making little comments about Lydia being from the countryside, but had she ever thought about the fact that maybe she should have been living that life instead? She'd spent eighteen years as the Norwood family's princess, never wanting for anything. Did it ever cross her mind that the life she had was supposed to be Lydia's? What right did she have to judge Lydia for where she came from? Honestly, she should be grateful Lydia hadn't just kicked her out and sent her back to where she belonged.

The room was suddenly filled with awkward silence.

Lucinda definitely didn't want everyone to think she was some shallow girl who'd turn her back on her real parents just to live in luxury. After a long, uncomfortable pause, she finally managed to speak. "Connor, I was actually planning to wait until Grandpa is completely better before I go visit them.

Cameron jumped in right away. "That's right, Lucinda. Of course, we don't want you to leave us for the White family, but they are your real parents. When you have a chance, you should take them some gifts and check in on them."

Kylie gave Lucinda a gentle look. Lucinda, your dad and I aren't selfish people. If you want to be there for your birth father, you should go. We would never stop you from doing that."

Lucinda's biological parents had

divorced a long time ago. The child who'd been switched at birth was already back with the Smith family, so now her father Frank was alone, no family to rely on. The Norwoods weren't the type to hold her back if she wanted to be a good daughter to him.

But honestly, the last thing Lucinda wanted was to hear anything about the White family or her real parents. There was no way she'd ever go back to that place, not in a million years.

"Dad, Mom, I know how much you care about me. Once Grandpa's all better, I'll make plans to visit him," she said, hoping that would be enough.

Alright, it's really up to you," Kylie replied softly. She didn't want to push Lucinda. If Lucinda didn't want to go, there wasn't much more anyone could say.

"Oh, and Dad, Mom, today's the day we can check our final exam grades," Lucinda added quickly,

eager to change the subject. Shenet

definitely didn't want to talk about the White family anymore, or about Garrett and Lydia saving someone together earlier Finals felt like a safer topic and honestly, she was pretty sure she'd done better than Lydia this time. Just thinking about finally beating Lydia at something made her a little giddy.

Cameron and Kylie had been so busy at the hospital lately that they'd completely forgotten about the exams. Now that Lucinda mentioned it, Cameron immediately asked, "Lucinda, how did you do?"

Lucinda's grades weren't as

impressive as her brothers', but compared to her classmates, she was still one of the top students in the honors class. It wasnt really her fault that her brothers were basically geniuses.

She straightened her back and let a little smile play on her lips.

"Dad, Mom, my results aren't out yet. But you know how they say the best scores

always come out last? I have a good feeling about it. I'm pretty sure I can get into Capital College or Oakwood College."
