chapter235
Lydia's eyes were icy, her tone flat. "Get out of my way."
She'd already spotted Sierra coming up behind her, reflected in the glass doors of the building.
Sierra's face twisted with anger. "What's your name?"
"Why should I tell you?"
"My friend's in the hospital because of you. You kicked her and hurt her back. She's still lying in bed. You need to go apologize, or just wait for the police to show up at your door!" Sierra said, practically vibrating with righteous fury.
Lydia let out a short laugh. "I'll be waiting."
She walked right past Sierra and didn't look back.
Sierra was stunned. She wasn't making it up. Her friend Louise really was in the hospital. Louise's family had already hired a lawyer. Yesterday, the Stein family sent people to wait outside this building all afternoon, hoping to catch Lydia, but she never showed. Sierra came today for her own interview and ended up running straight into her.
Watching Lydia's figure disappear down the hall, Sierra pulled out her phone and called Louise's mom.
The call connected right away.
Miranda, I just saw the girl who attacked Louise."
"What? Sierra, are you sure you saw her?" Miranda's voice was tight with anger.
"I'm sure, Miranda. She just walked into Greenward Power. I told her to go apologize to Louise or else the police would come for her."
Miranda gave a cold laugh. "She hurt my daughter. An apology isn't enough. I want her behind bars for a long time."
"But Miranda, she wouldn't even tell me her name. You should come down here with some people. She's probably here for an interview. What if she slips away after it's over? Sierra guessed Lydia was just a college student looking for a summer job. Greenward Power was hiring for all kinds of positions right now.
"Alright, Sierra. We're coming. That girl is going to end up on her knees, begging for forgiveness."
After hanging up, Miranda turned to look at her daughter, who was lying in bed, glued to her phone game.
"Louise, did you hear? Sierra found the girl who hit you."
Louise didn't even glance up, but her words were sharp. "Mom, go get her arrested.
If she doesn't kneel and apologize and pay me ten million for medical bills, I'll never let her off the hook."
The Stein family owned over a dozen hotels in the Capital. While they weren't exactly luxury hotels, their assets were in the billions, and they had plenty of connections In their own circle, they held a decent amount of power. Miranda's younger brother was a deputy chief at one of the city's police precincts, which made things even easier for them.
Just stay in bed and stop playing games. What will it look like if the police show up and find you like this?"
Louise sighed. "With Uncle Allen around, what's there to worry about? Just go and get that girl before she disappears."
Miranda was thinking the same thing. She grabbed her designer bag off the nightstand and stormed out, determined to find Lydia.
Meanwhile, Lydia arrived at her office. Josef was waiting for her, holding a stack of papers.
"Ms. Norwood, the three designers you asked about have all been notified. Their interviews are at nine this morning.
Lydia nodded. "Good. Tell all the department heads to meet in the conference room. We're having a meeting."
Josef had been about to ask if she
wanted to gather everyone. Lydia had been in charge for a few days eenin now, but she hadn't officially met the department leads. With all the big changes happening lately everyon? was on edge worried they'd be the next to get fired.
"Of course, Ms. Norwood. I'll let everyone know right away."
A few days ago, if Lydia had asked for a meeting, the department heads probably would have rolled their eyes. Now, hearing there was a meeting actually made them feel a little relieved.
