chapter234
Lydia knew there was no way out of this. She could only nod, a little helpless. "Alright, Grandpa Samuel, I'll accept it. I'll take it in a bit. Thank you for the treat."
Mr. Jefferson's laughter rang out the moment she agreed. "Treat? Please. Giving my granddaughter-in-law some pocket money makes me happy."
"Thank you, Grandpa Samuel."
"Haha, you don't have to thank me, Lydia. Now, I'll let you get back to work. Remember to get plenty of rest, okay?"
"Okay, I will."
After the video call ended, Mr. Jefferson was still grinning so wide his cheeks hurt. That alone made his day. Still, he couldn't help but wonder how things were going between her and that stubborn grandson of his. Connor was hopeless with girls, cold as ice... Did he even know how to chase a girl?
The more Mr. Jefferson thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. He didn't hesitate. He called Aiden right away.
Aiden was busy prepping for a meeting when Mr. Jefferson's name flashed on his screen. His heart dropped. Connor wasn't missing, was he? What could possibly be so urgent that Mr. Jefferson was calling him directly?
He picked up, instantly straightening his posture. "Hello, sir."
"Aiden, tell me, how are things going with Connor and Lydia?"
Aiden noticed the old man's tone was unusually cheerful, way more relaxed than usual. Was it a holiday or something? Had pigs started flying?
"Sir, things are fine."
"Fine? What does that mean?" Mr. Jefferson's tone turned sharp, clearly unhappy.
Aiden felt every muscle tense up. I mean, things seem... pretty good." He was already screaming inside. How was he supposed to answer that? Lydia was always busy. She barely had time to talk to Connor, but the last couple of times they'd met, especially last night, seemed to be progress... probably.
Mr. Jefferson still wasn't satisfied. He paused, then gave a direct order. "Listen, next time Connor's with Lydia, I want you to secretly take a short video for me."
"Huh?" Aiden was frozen. Did he just ask him to spy? No way. That was a death wish.
"What do you mean, 'huh ? I'm just asking for a video, not for you to go undercover. Why are you making such a big deal?"
"But sir, if he finds out, I..."
Just be careful. Don't let him know. Even if he does find out, I'll take responsibility. You're safe."
"But..."
"No buts. Who actually runs this family?" Mr. Jefferson's temper flared, his voice raising.

Aiden almost wilted on the spot. He wanted to cry. Wasn't this just making things impossible for him? If Connor caught wind this he'd be shipped off and never return.
Maybe realizing he'd gone too far, Mr. Jefferson softened his tone. just want to know what's going on between them. It's just a photo or a quick video. What's so hard about that?"
Aiden was speechless.
"This is your little mission. Get it done, and make it quick, understand?"
Aiden was practically in tears. "Yes, sir."
Mr. Jefferson hung up, completely satisfied, while Aiden was so stressed he wanted
to tear out his hair. Did he just sign himself to be a spy, what was it?
Lydia got out of her car and was just about to walk into the company building when someone shouted behind her, rough and loud. "Hey! Stop right there!"
Lydia didn't even pause. She kept walking.
Seconds later, someone rushed forward and blocked her way, breathing hard, eyes blazing. It was Sierra.
Sierra wore a pink dress dotted with
pearls and a pair of towering crystal
heels, looking all dressed up but
furious. She glared at Lydia, practically spitting fire. "I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?" '
