Chapter 137

chapter137

At exactly six in the evening, Lydia shut down her computer and started packing up for the night. Her phone buzzed just as she was about to leave. It was Kylie.

"Hey, Mom."

"Lydia, are you done for the day? Your grandfather's doing well, so you can just head straight home after work. Your dad and I will be home soon too."

Lydia hesitated for a second. "Mom, I'm not coming home for dinner tonight.

"Oh? Why not? Another date with Connor?" Kylie blurted out before she could stop herself.

Kylie realized how that sounded and quickly tried to fix it. "No, I just mean... it's good for you two to spend time together."

"It's not about him. I want to go to Lakeview Town tonight and check on Grandma."

The moment Kylie heard she was visiting Mrs. Smith, her tone softened. Oh, I see. Lydia, why don't your dad and I come with you? We've been meaning to visit her anyway, and we should really thank her for everything she's done for you."

Jenson and Milana might not have taken care of their daughter, but Mrs. Smith had always treated her with genuine kindness. Kylie and Cameron had never forgotten that.

"That's okay. I'm just dropping off some medicine for her leg. I'll be back soon."

Kylie thought for a moment. "Alright, Lydia. We'll go together another day and bring a proper gift."

"Sounds good."

"Oh, and Lydia, the drive to Lakeview Town is kind of far. Let me have Jack take you. It's safer if you don't go alone, Kylie said, still worried.

"No, it's fine. I'll drive myself. I'll get there quickly."

"But..."

"Don't worry, Mom. I'll be careful."

"Okay, but text me when you get there so I know you're safe."

"I will."

Lydia slung her black backpack over her shoulder and walked out of her office. The assistants outside immediately sat up straighter, pretending to be extra busy and too scared to even glance her way. After the two huge announcements Lydia made eather, the whole company was on edge. Everybody was nervous, terrified that one mistake would get them fired.

At first, no one took her seriously. They all thought she was just some clueless rich kid playing at being the boss for fun. No one expected her to be so sharp and decisive She barely said a word, but when she did, things happened fast. The way she ran things reminded people of Blake Norwood, the legendary CEO of Norwood Enterprises.

If they hadn't known for sure that the chairman's wife only had one daughter, Lucinda, they might have thought Lydia was one of them too. How else could she have sent Henry to the police and posted his job opening without headquarters a thing? It

friends with Kylie. Greenward Power basically had her protection.

Everyone was dying to know who Lydia really was and where she'd come from.

Josef had just finished printing some documents when he spotted Lydia heading out. He greeted her respectfully. "Ms. Norwood."

Lydia nodded. I have something to do tonight, so I'm heading out early."

"Of course, Ms. Norwood."

She walked a few steps, then glanced back. "How's the recruitment going?"

Josef's face lit up right away. "It's going fantastic. As soon as we posted the job openings, tons of talented graduates applied. Even people with lots of experience from other companies are thinking about jumping over."
