chapter1091
Lucinda lifted her chin when she heard Mr. Norwood's words, her whole posture screaming with pride. She looked like she was finally getting her moment in the spotlight. Lydia was being investigated, her spotless record finally tarnished, and honestly, Lucinda couldn't have looked more thrilled. At last, she'd managed to outshine Lydia for once.
Blake shot Mr. Norwood a disapproving look. "Grandpa, what are you so mixed up about this time? They just came to check out Lydia's background. She's back safe, nothing bad happened, so clearly she didn't do anything wrong."
Mr. Norwood was left startled for a second, but he quickly recovered. "Whether she did something wrong or not, only she knows the truth. I just hope she isn't hiding anything from us that could drag down the whole Norwood family and embarrass us all."
"Dad, what could Lydia have possibly done?" Cameron finally snapped. "What's gotten into you lately?"
This whole week, Mr. Norwood had been making everyone's lives difficult. At first, they'd chalked it up to his injured foot and being stuck in the house, but now it was starting to feel like maybe he'd hit his head too when he fell. The things he was saying now were even worse than when Lydia first came back to the Norwood family.
As everyone scolded him, Mr. Norwood's face twisted into an expression of wounded drama.
"Well, well. She's the one who made a mistake, and as her grandfather, I can't say a single word? You all rush to protect her, but now I'm suddenly the villain? You're just tired of having an old cripple under your roof. I'm just a burden now, right? If you don't want me here, then send me back to my old house in North City. Let me fend for myself. Just let me rot alone."
He finished his outburst and angrily wheeled himself away toward his room.
Cameron could only sigh in defeat. No one really knew what to say after that.
Lucinda hurried over to Lydia, her tone gentle and reassuring. "Grandpa's just been in a terrible
mood since he hurt his foot. He net
didn't mean what he said, so please
dont take it to heart. I'll leo talk
him and calm him down."
She rushed after Mr. Norwood, but as she turned away, a smug little smile flickered
at the corners of her mouth.
Tina, standing nearby, caught the
whole thing. Her hands balled into fists as she glared at Lucinda's back. Ever since Mr. Norwood
he'd tell everyone Lucinda was Lydia's twin, Lucinda had only gotten more stuck-up. Tina burned with anger on Lydia's behalf.
Kylie, Cameron, and Blake all frowned at the scene, clearly annoyed. Lydia just
watched the old man disappear down the hallway, looking thoughtful.
Kylie was worried Lydia might be upset, and grabbed her hand. "Lydia, don't listen to him. He's just confused these days. We all believe you The only thing that matters is that you're home."
"Yeah, Lydia," Cameron chimed in, "as long as you're back, it's all good."
Lydia just smiled, unfazed. It really doesn't bother me. It was just a standard investigation, no big deal."
Blake waited until the servants had left before turning to Lydia. Lydia, I heard Uncle William got questioned too. Were you two together?"
Cameron and Kylie looked at Blake in surprise. They hadn't heard about that.
Lydia's lips quirked up. Blake, you really are the best at sniffing out news."
