Debra had no reason to refuse, even though she wanted to. She simply felt regretful. Owen had been such a useful pawn, and now he was about to leave without having been properly utilized.
“Alright, I agree. You can go to the HR department,” Debra said.
Even though she didn’t want to, she had to make her position clear in front of everyone. But even if Owen left, Sandra would not be the director of the technical department. Debra needed to find a more suitable right-hand person.
However, Sandra responded with surprise, “Really? I was just kidding.”
Debra shot her a glare.
Sandra continued, “Mr. Pope wasn’t competent enough. He has been in the technical department for many years. Mrs. Debra Cooper, how could you just let him go?” She sighed with apparent disappointment. “Mr. Pope must be heartbroken.”
At first, Owen hadn’t considered this possibility in his anger, but upon hearing Sandra’s words, he looked at Debra, surprised. Debra’s face darkened.
She had just tried to keep Owen, but Sandra interfered. Owen had fainted deliberately in front of everyone, making matters worse. If she didn’t allow his resignation, she would be suspected.
Debra hadn’t expected Sandra to shift the blame onto her. She glanced at Owen’s gloomy expression, knowing he had misunderstood. But she was the president, and she couldn’t go back on her word.
Since she had agreed to let Owen resign, he had to leave. Gritting her teeth, she said, “That’s the company’s policy.” After a pause, she added,
“Sandra, you are new here and may not be familiar with the rules, but you must remember to abide by them. If you violate the company’s rules, I won’t show any mercy!”
Sandra smirked and gave a thumbs-up. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, you sacrifice personal relationships for the company’s sake. I admire you.”
Hearing this obviously sarcastic comment, Debra could hardly contain her anger. She turned her head to look at Owen and said coldly, “Mr. Pope, come to my office.”
Owen was furious as well. He had truly fainted earlier, and he still felt weak. But since Debra had promoted him, he had no choice but to obey her, even if it made him uncomfortable.
The technical department quickly quieted down.
Sandra smiled at the onlookers near the door. “Does this count as a violation of company rules?”
The crowd, taken aback, quickly dispersed. Gathering in groups was strictly prohibited. Debra hadn’t reprimanded them right away because she was angry, but if she realized it later, she would deal with them.
Only Wesley and Joey remained by the door.
Joey felt a bit awkward and waved at Sandra. “Mrs. Cooper…”
“Don’t address me so intimately in the company,” Sandra replied seriously.
Joey smiled. “You were impressive.”
Sandra waved her hand dismissively. “It was nothing. I was just speaking the truth.”
Joey blinked. Did she really think it was nothing? Debra had almost had a stroke over it.
When Victor and Wesley were both unconscious, the whole company had belonged to Debra. No one dared to provoke her.
“Mr. Cooper, aren’t you busy today?” Sandra asked, noticing Wesley sitting leisurely in his wheelchair. She pursed her lips, sensing that he seemed idle.
Sandra was assigned a lot of miscellaneous tasks when she joined the technical department, while Wesley could simply come and watch the commotion idly. It didn’t seem fair.
Wesley lightly tapped the armrest of the wheelchair with his fingers. “Just a reminder, she won’t let this go easily.”
After a pause, as if worried Sandra wouldn’t understand, he added, “She will seek revenge. Be careful.”
With that, he pressed the button on the wheelchair and rolled away.
Sandra shrugged. She knew Debra was not someone who would give up easily, but she wasn’t afraid. She was skilled at handling people like her.
In the president’s office, Owen lowered his head in frustration.
Debra slammed her fist on the table in anger. “Look at what you’ve done! I asked you to deal with Sandra, but you’ve shot yourself in the foot! You idiot!”
Owen felt wronged. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, I know I made a mistake, but you didn’t tell me Sandra was a computer expert! If I had known about her abilities, I would have been more cautious. I wouldn’t have suffered such a complete defeat today.”
Debra snorted in frustration. Despite her anger, she still maintained some rationality. She knew it wasn’t entirely Owen’s fault.
She took a few deep breaths to calm herself. “Alright, we underestimated her today. Do you have any ideas?”
Owen nodded. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, there is one more way to turn the tables.”
“Tell me,” Debra demanded.
Owen approached and whispered in her ear. “Since she thinks she’s a computer expert and fixed the company’s firewall, let’s give her a chance to shine.”
Debra frowned. “What do you mean?”
A smile appeared on Owen’s lips. “I can attack the company’s firewall. If it’s breached, we’ll have a reason to deal with her.”
Debra smiled, pleased with the idea. “Good plan. The computer in the adjacent office is available. You can use it.”
Owen let out a sigh of relief. “Using the company’s computer will save some time since there are security measures that can be easily bypassed.”
Debra sneered. “I don’t need you to save time. I want you to completely break through the firewall and cause the company some losses.”
Owen gasped. If they only attacked the firewall, Sandra’s punishment would be minor. But if the company experienced losses, she would be held responsible. At the very least, Sandra would be suspended for an investigation, and at worst, she could end up in jail.
With this thought in mind, he felt a surge of excitement. “Mrs. Debra Cooper, rest assured, I won’t let you down!”
In the technical department, after Owen left, everyone went back to their tasks. But during their breaks, they still discussed who would be the next director.
“Maybe it’ll be Sandra. After all, she’s Mr. Cooper’s wife.”
“It’s pointless. Mr. Cooper can’t even protect himself.”
“Who do you think has a chance?”
“I think it’s Stacy.”
Suddenly, one of them yelled, “Oh no, my computer crashed!”
“It’s been hacked!”
