chapter1051
Queenie said, "That's what they told me, but honestly, I can't be sure it was really them."
Coleman shot Stella a meaningful look before pressing further. "Why would they want to hurt Aurora's hand?"
Unfamiliar with the Williams family's tangled affairs, Queenie didn't catch the implication in Coleman's tone.
She replied, "Didn't the doctor say Aurora's hand is going to be fine? It won't affect her playing the violin, or stop her from racing, or doing any of her work. Whoever targeted her hand probably just wanted to torment her." This update is available on F?nd-Novel.net
Coleman faltered, at a loss for words.
The doctors had already examined Aurora's injuries-no broken bones, no internal damage. The cuts on her fingers looked bad and must have hurt, but with proper care, she would recover quickly.
After making her customary visit to check in on Aurora, Stella soon headed out.
She had barely stepped outside the hospital when a sweet, lively voice called out behind her.
"Ms. Cameron, could you wait a second?"
Stella turned and saw Queenie hurrying after her.
She'd heard Mr. Burton mention his granddaughter Queenie many times, but during her time helping Mr. Burton, she had never actually met Queenie, nor did she know what she looked like. It wasn't until Skyler introduced them in the hospital room that Stella realized Queenie and Aurora were close friends.
Stella looked at her. "Is there something I can do for you, Ms. Burton?
Despite her sugar-sweet appearance, Queenie was anything but shy; she got straight to the point.
"I heard you and Haynes are divorced?"
Stella nodded. "That's right."
Queenie continued, "Before you married him, always liked Haynes. But I was engaged back then and couldn't say anything by the time l was free he was already married: Now that I've heard he's singte again...I don't want to miss my chance this time." s
Stella showed no sign of surprise.
From the day she married Haynes, there had been no shortage of
women interested in him. But Haynes himself had never seemed particularly interested in women, nor had he ever caused any scandals. At the time, Stella had thought shed chosen well. It wasn't until Rachel entered the picture that she realized things could change. s
Her feelings for Haynes had long since faded, so she simply nodded at Queenie's words.
Queenie met Stella's gaze directly. "You're not planning to get back together with Haynes, are you?"
Stella was about to reply when Queenie pressed on, "Not that it matters if you are. This time, I'm not giving up easily. And I won't lose to you again."
Stella said, "I appreciate your determination, Ms. Burton. But since you're Mr. Burton's granddaughter, I'll be honest with you-your chances of success aren't very high."
Queenie asked, "Is that because you think having a child with him gives you the upper hand?"
Stella said evenly, "If Haynes and I are divorced, it means there's no going back. If you don't care about his past, there's really no need to treat me like a rival."
Queenie flashed a playful smile, dimples appearing in her cheeks. "Would you swear it? Swear, and I'll believe you."
Stella's eyes narrowed slightly.
Before she could reply, Queenie grinned. I'm kidding."
Just then, Joshua spoke up, his tone dry. "Who said you're joking? Are you two even that close? As the heiress
of the Burton family, you should ne
know how to keep your
distance unless you want to end up like your uncle and brother, both ruined by other people's games." s
