The ringing of the phone also caught Thalassa’s attention.

It was a tone she was familiar with, her own ringtone. Her phone was on the bedside table, within arm’s

reach. Temporarily letting go of her children, she picked it up and saw her boss, Ethan’s name on the

screen.

She swiped to answer.

Before Thalassa could even offer him a greeting, Ethan’s voice filled the room. “Thalassa, just stay

home and rest. Don’t worry about coming to work until you’re fully recovered.”

Thalassa was taken aback. How did Ethan know she was hurt?

She had taken a day off yesterday, but she hadn’t informed Ethan about her injury.

There was only one person who could have informed Ethan, resulting in such a considerate response

from him: Lysander.

Without thinking, Thalassa glanced over at Lysander. However, his deep gaze was already on her.

Their eyes met, and Thalassa’s breath hitched, causing her heartbeat to flutter like a plucked string on

a guitar.

Lysander’s gaze was as intense and unfathomable as the man himself. It was not something she could

comfortably meet head-on.

Swiftly, she looked away and continued her conversation with Ethan. “I understand, Mr. Ethan. I will

rest and try to get back to work as soon as I can.”

“Your health is important. This is considered a work-related injury, so you’re entitled to paid leave. So,

don’t rush.” The concern in Ethan’s voice was evident.

Thalassa was not one to take advantage of other people’s kindness. She had injured herself while

hiking on her day off. How could that be considered a work-related injury?

“Mr. Ethan, how can this be considered a work-related injury? You should still deduct my salary for the

day.”

“Any injury that occurs during your employment period is considered work-related. I need to head into a

meeting now, so take care. Goodbye.” With that brief explanation, Ethan hurriedly ended the call.

Thalassa was left a bit stunned.

Had the definition of a work-related injury changed?

Or had she been misunderstanding it all this time?

After setting her phone down, she saw Lysander stride over, leading the children by hand. His tone was

stern, but not angry. “Let’s go downstairs for breakfast and then head off to school. We’re running late.”

“I want to go downstairs with Mommy.” Sophia refused to let go. Her tiny hand relentlessly gripped

Thalassa’s with all her strength.

“Your mother can’t move around easily. Someone will bring her breakfast.” Lysander tried to reassure

her.

Sophia finally let go of Thalassa’s hand, but as she left, she cast a worried glance back at Thalassa.

Thalassa understood. Sophia was worried that she would be hungry. That was why she wanted to go

downstairs with her.

Her little angels were so considerate.

Once the children and Lysander had left the room, Thalassa sat alone on the bed, annoyed by her lack

of mobility.

She felt so helpless.

All she could do was sit there, feeling utterly bored.

A while later, a maid brought up her breakfast on a beautiful silver tray.

With the maid’s help, Thalassa moved to the small table, but after taking one look at her breakfast, she

couldn’t believe how bland it was.

Plain oatmeal with steamed vegetables? Even her beverage was just a cup of milk.

Thalassa was a fan of spicy food. Even when she had oatmeal, she would have it sprinkled with

jalapenos.

This was too bland. She had no appetite for such a meal.

As the maid was about to leave, Thalassa stopped her. “Could I get some jalapenos, please?”

The maid hesitated. “I’m sorry, Ms. Everhart, but Lysander instructed that you shouldn’t have anything

spicy.”

“Why?”

“You need to watch your diet when you’re injured. It’s common sense.” Lysander’s authoritative voice

echoed in the room, seemingly drawing nearer every second.
