chapter982
The moment Lydia heard the gunshots, she guessed the escapees had been discovered.
"How many bombs did you plant?"
Sweet Potato answered, "We've set up two so far. One in their armory and another
in the entertainment building. That place looked really high-end."
"Detonate them. Make some noise and help those people get out.
Lydia had come tonight with one goal in mind: blow the whole base sky-high.
"Copy that, Lydia. Did you find Luke?"
Lydia hesitated for a second. "Not yet. You go ahead and start."
After giving the order, she pulled out another foldable phone. Once it opened, it looked like a little laptop. Her fingers flew over the tiny keyboard as she hacked into the base's surveillance system.
If she could just confirm Luke had been taken from here, she could follow his trail. The whole place was crawling with cameras.
It didn't take long for Lydia to pinpoint the exact time Luke was moved. There weren't any cameras inside, but there was one at the entrance.
At 11:03 a.m., Lydia watched as Luke and a group of men from their country were marched out by armed guards. A boy and a girl were right beside him, clutching his shirt.
Luke looked terrible, his clothes stained with blood. Even though the footage was blurry, Lydia could tell he was barely hanging on, like he might collapse any second.
Once they left the building, they disappeared from view. The area around it had no other cameras, but Lydia managed to track them on some distant feeds and at the base exit. She figured Luke and the others had been driven out of the base.
She took note of the license plate and sent it off.
Luke was already gone. She needed to finish things here, fast.
She had just put her phone away when a thunderous explosion shook the building. Fire lit up the sky outside. Everyone inside could feel the floor tremble under their feet.
The people waiting for Lydia to lead them out heard the blast and started to panic again.
Lydia said, "Come with me."
Just like that, the tense mood eased
a little. The girl in front of them looked young, but her calm, steady way of handling things made it clear she was different from anyone they'd ever met.
The armory had exploded. For the people running this place, it was like the end of the world.
The guards who'd been chasing after escapees now had much bigger problems.
A bald, muscular man in a white suit stormed out of the base's most luxurious building, face red with fury as he listened to the explosi ns. He looked like he could tear someone apart with his bare hands.
"Who the hell is making trouble in my base?
"Ghost! The captives are breaking out too! Call for backup!" one of his men shouted, panicked.
Ghost ran the base. Everyone did what he said. Tonight's chaos had thrown him off completely.
"If I catch whoever did this, I'll chop them up!"
Ghost spat out the words, grabbing his phone to call for help. Right then, a massive blast roared behind him.
Someone screamed, "Ghost, run!"
He didn't even have time to think. He managed a few steps before a wave of heat slammed into him from behind.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
In an instant, people were thrown by the force of the explosions. Flames shot high into the night, and the building behind them came crashing down.
