chapter914
Lydia laughed softly. "Trust me, I haven't forgotten. You better not weasel out of it later."
Silvia nearly lost it, her anger boiling over.
Seriously?
Wow, Lydia sure had some nerve.
"Alright then, Lydia. I'll be waiting to see you break into the top three."
It wasn't just Silvia who doubted her. The truth was, Daisy had grown up in a family of doctors, and so had a bunch of others at Capital Med School. Some of them had practically been raised in hospital wards. Lydia only scored a perfect result on the national exam and suddenly acted like she was untouchable.
Book smarts didn't mean much in the real world.
Capital College had set up the academic competition in so many places that everyone had to find their own assigned spot, just like exam day, and wait for things to start.
Lydia sat with Capital Med School's team. Right beside them was Capital College's medical department, and there were students from other top universities too.
Daisy had been watching Lydia for a while. Today, she was determined to beat her, to make Lydia kneel and admit she's better in front of everyone.
Lydia, wanna make a bet? Daisy asked, walking right over to where Lydia was sitting. Lydia didn't like crowds, so she'd picked a seat by the aisle, next to Fiona and Monica.
With ten minutes left before the competition, she leaned back, head resting against Fiona's shoulder, eyes closed, just relaxing.
She heard Daisy but didn't even bother to react.
Daisy mistook the silence for fear and chuckled. Lydia, I know you're faking sleep. What's wrong? Are you scared? Not brave enough to bet against me?"
Monica scoffed. "Please. Lydia isn't scared of you."
Daisy, already fuming, shot back, Oh, that's some next-level bootlicking."
"Daisy, watch your mouth." Lydia's eyes snapped open, her gaze icy cold.
Daisy jumped a little at Lydia's sudden glare but quickly recovered. "What? They're just happy to be your little mards. If you're really as tough, as they say, then prove it. Bet with me. Let's see if you deserve their loyalty."
Lydia looked at her calmly. "I heard the Rivers family's not doing so well lately.
Almost bankrupt, right? Are you sure you have time to gamble with me?"
The students nearby all stared, stunned.
The Rivers family, bankrupt?
Was that for real?
They hadn't heard a word about it.
medicine.
And the Rivers family was famous in the Gapital for How.could, under just like that? Maybe
they go
Lydia was just trying to shake Daisy up because she was afraid to lose.
Daisy's face went stiff in an instant.
She glared at Lydia, her eyes full of pure hatred, like she wanted to wring Lydia's
neck right then and there.
How did Lydia know?
It was true the Rivers family really
was in trouble. Their business
partners kept pulling out, and work was going haywire They'd been working hard to keeput all quiet, hoping nobody would find out.
Lydia, you're talking nonsense. My family is fine. I think you're just scared you'll
lose to me, so you're making excuses not to bet."
Lydia just gave her a mocking look. "So, what's the bet?"
Daisy sneered. Since you love being number one so much, let's see who takes first place in this competition. Whoever loses has to kneel in front of everyone and call the winner Your Highness."
She was determined to pay Lydia back for the humiliation at Capital Med School, and then some.
Lydia smiled, not impressed at all. "That's it?"
Daisy rolled her eyes. "What, you want to make it more interesting? Go ahead, add something."
Lydia's eyes narrowed. "The loser leaves the medical program. For good. No more chances to embarrass themselves in medicine."
