Chapter 843

chapter843

If he really couldn't come up with the money, it would have been so embarrassing. Lucinda would definitely look down on him.

"Just wait, the card's on its way."

As soon as Caspian said this, Lucinda lifted her chin, her whole posture changing. She hadn't expected him to actually be able to pull together that much cash. Even as the daughter of the richest man around, used to a life of luxury, she'd never had that much money in her hands all at once.

Caspian wasn't completely without his good points. At the very least, he knew how to boost her ego and keep her from getting mortified in front of Lydia and Connor.

It wasn't long before Breanna rushed over, almost out of breath from hurrying. She paused when she saw Lucinda. Connor and Lydia still had their hats and masks on, so Breanna didn't recognize Connor right away.

"Caspian! Over here!"

She pulled Caspian aside and lowered her voice. "What's going on?"

Caspian had no choice but to give her the short version. Breanna was honestly starting to believe her brother had completely lost his mind.

"Are you crazy? Lucinda is Connor's fianc e. How could you get mixed up with her?"

Breanna knew all about his crush on Lucinda. She'd told him a million times to let it go, but he just wouldn't listen. Now she was truly furious.

"Connor's moved on. She's not marrying into the Jefferson family anymore. Isn't this fate giving me a chance?" Caspian tried to argue.

"Have you lost your mind? I don't support you being with her, and you're not buying any of this stuff today."

Caspian figured that if his sister

knew what was really going on, there was no way shed hand over the money. But he really needed to buy

these things for Lucinda. It mattered

more than anything.

If spending tens of millions meant he could have a future with Lucinda, he thought it was worth it.

"Breanna, just lend me the money. I'll hand over my shares to you as soon as we get home," Caspian pleaded.

"I don't have any money. If you want it so badly, go ask Mom and Dad." Breanna spun on her heel, ready to leave.

Caspian grabbed her wrist. "I've never asked you for anything before. This is the first time I'm begging you. Please, help me."

If you wanted to invest in something legit, I'd help you in a heartbeat. But you're just throwing money around to show off and impress Lucinda. I'm not helping you with that."

"Breanna!"

"Caspian, just let it go. Even if she doesn't marry into the Jefferson family, she's not going to like you. she cared about you at all she wouldn't watch you spend four times the price just to compete for some empty bragging rights."

While the siblings argued in hushed voices, Lucinda caught pieces of their conversation. Her face darkened immediately.

Seriously? Did they really think she cared that much about the jewelry? She had way better pieces at home, more than she could ever wear.

Caspian, forget it. I don't want any of this stuff. Let them have it," Lucinda said, turning on her heel and striding away.

Caspian panicked and hurried after her. "Lucinda! I said I'd get them for you, and I will. Please, just give me a little more time."

Lucinda shot him a look. "Why would

you fight with them over these

things when you don't even have the money? Do you really think I'm that shallow? balready have plenty of things like this at home. They're nicer, have more value, and honestly,

I don't need you borrowing money to buy me anything."
