chapter785
Grace stumbled through her update. On the other end, she heard a heavy sigh.
"What are you even good for?" Night Eagle's voice was rough and brimming with anger.
Grace tensed, rushing to explain. "It's Lydia. She's... impossible. She's got all these weird skills. I can't keep up with her. Now the whole Norwood family is wrapped around her finger. If they find out Lucinda is fighting with Lydia over the Jefferson marriage, they'll kick Lucinda out for sure."
"If she can't marry someone from the Jefferson family, then what's the point of having you at all? Night Eagle snapped.
"That's why I'm asking for help. If you can just get rid of Lydia, Lucinda will still be the one to marry into the Jeffersons."
"I'll handle her. But someone's been watching us, so I can't move right now. You need to figure something out. Stall for time. As long as we get what we want in the end, I don't care how you do it."
All Night Eagle cared about was seeing his daughter marry someone from the Jefferson family. Anyone in the way was as good as gone.
Grace was terrified he'd lose his temper, so she forced herself to agree. Okay. I understand."
After hanging up, she immediately deleted the call log and switched off her phone. Staring at the blank screen, she thought of Lydia's insane ability to recover lost data. It made no sense. Lydia had grown up in some rural village with the Smiths. How did she get so many tricks up her sleeve? Grace regretted not asking Night Eagle to look deeper into Lydia's past.
The next morning, everyone got up on time for breakfast. At nine, they were supposed to head over to the Robinsons. It was a big deal, and nobody wanted to be late.
Lydia came down the stairs and spotted Lucinda in an apron, carrying a plate of pancakes into the dining room.
Lucinda looked up, smiled, and called out, "Morning, Lydia. I made breakfast. Come have a try."
Blake and Elliot followed Lydia down. Lucinda greeted them too. "Blake, Elliot, you're visiting Grandpa and Grandma and everyone today, remember? Don't be late. Have some breakfast first and tell me what you think of my cooking."
Blake cleared his throat, glancing at Lydia. "Lydia, if you don't want to eat here, we could grab breakfast out."
Elliot nodded. "Yeah, Lydia. There's a place nearby with awesome food. Let's go there."
Lucinda's smile faded a little at their words.
Mr. Norwood was already sitting at
the table. He looked at the three of them on the stairs. "Lucinda hard all morning. Atleast

try"
It was obvious he wanted everyone to give Lucinda another chance, to help her make things right.
Kylie and Cameron came out of their bedroom and stopped short when they saw Lucinda with her apron and serving tray.
Lucinda kept smiling as she greeted them. "Morning, Mom, Dad. Come try the breakfast I made?"
Kylie walked over, eyeing all the
different dishes. She noticed
Lucinda's puffy eyes and the red
burn on her hand, and her brow
tightened just a bit.
Lucinda saw her look and hurried to say, "Mom, if you don't like these, I can make something else."
Kylie sighed. "Lucinda, you don't have to do all this."
