chapter757
Christie let out a sharp laugh, like she'd just heard the most ridiculous thing ever. "You beat my son up and now you want him to apologize? Are you out of your minds?"
Christie snapped her fingers at the two bodyguards by her side, pointing at Lydia. When she glanced at Connor, she hesitated, then skipped right over him and jabbed her finger at Luke. "And him. Hold them down. I'm going to teach them a lesson they won't forget."
The two bodyguards stepped forward, looking confident. Lydia and Luke didn't seem like much trouble to them.
But before Lydia could even move, Connor took a step forward and, with two quick kicks, sent both bodyguards flying. They hit the ground hard, completely stunned.
Christie, Fred, and the others just stared, mouths open. The whole thing happened so fast, they barely even saw it.
Christie's face turned red. "How dare you... You hurt my son, then my driver, and you think you'll get away with it? I'm calling the police!"
Lydia just nodded, totally calm. "Go ahead."
That only made Christie angrier. She shot a furious glare at Lydia, then whipped out her phone and made the call. When she hung up, she immediately called her husband, her voice shaking with anger as she told him their son had been attacked and that he needed to come right away.
She put her phone away and glared at Lydia, practically vibrating with outrage. "You're done. Just wait."
Fred puffed up his chest. "Yeah, my stepdad is really powerful. You guys are in so much trouble."
Lydia just gave Christie a look, holding her gaze for a moment. She didn't say anything more.
A few minutes later, two police officers showed up. They took one look at Fred's swollen face and immediately focused on Lydia and Connor. Both of them were wearing black hats and masks, so the officers asked them to take them off.
Connor and Lydia did as they were told. As soon as Connor removed his mask, the officers froze, staring at him like they couldn't believe what they were seeing they definitely recognized him.
Connor caught their reaction and spoke up, his tone steady. "Maybe you should start by asking why they called the police."
Christie wasted no time jumping in. "Why do you think? Look at my son. His nose is bleeding. He's a mess. Isn't it obvious?"
Connor asked again, almost patiently. "And how did he end up like this?"
Christie rolled her eyes. Because you attacked him, obviously."
Connor kept going. "And why would we do that?"
Christie hesitated for a second, but then snapped, "Because you're unreasonable! Luke started it. Officers, Luke hit my son first. My son just tried to defend himself and ganged up on him. You
then they ad
have to do something about this!"
While Christie was ranting, Lydia quietly pulled out her phone and accessed the only
working security camera in the courtyard. The feed was live and clear.
She held up her screen to the
officers. "Here's what really happened. Watch this. And just so you know, my brother recently had a kidney transplant and major surgery. They were the ones who went after him first, both physically and verbally."
Fred and his friends went pale.
The officers watched the footage. There was no mistaking what happened. Fred and his friends had cornered Luke, insulted him, and started the fight. Luke had just defended himself.
Then the video showed them threatening him with beer bottles, saying they were going to kill him and that nobody would even care if he died.
Lydia's voice was calm but serious. "One beer bottle can be deadly. They had three. This wasn't just a fight. This was attempted murder."
