chapter726
Benjamin sat there, looking just as confused as his wife, Mandy. "Jackson already told the folks at the training camp what to do. There shouldn't have been any
problems."
Mandy scoffed. No problems? Then why did someone else take first place? Those are our people, and they still let someone else win."
Benjamin frowned, thinking hard. "Maybe this Lydia isn't so simple.
Mandy thought about it for a second. I've never even heard of her."
"She's this year's national top scorer. Perfect marks."
Mandy rolled her eyes. "So what if she's the top scorer? She's just a nobody from Lakeview Town. How can she compare to Rosie? Now she's got first place and everyone's talking about her. What about Rosie?"
Benjamin considered it, then looked at Mandy, his eyes narrowed. "If it comes to it, we'll just have Lydia's results thrown out."
Mandy nodded right away. "Exactly what I was thinking. The whole camp is basically run by Jackson. We can come up with a reason to disqualify her. That shouldn't be hard."
Benjamin said, "You should call him. You're his sister. It'll be easier if you handle it." But Mandy shook her head. "This is small. I'll just call the training camp director."
The truth was, Mandy didn't dare call Jackson about something so minor. They were siblings in name, but she was only the adopted daughter of the Hydes family. Lately, with Jackson moving up in the world, she found it harder and harder to talk to him about anything, let alone something like this.
Benjamin nodded. "Alright. I'll call the camp director."
Lydia's group finished the challenge early and got to go back to the base to rest. Rosie's group didn't win, but they came in a close second.
Daisy's group was still out there, desperately searching for clues. When they heard Lydia's group had come all five of them were
in first lost. Did that mean
stunned. They
they'd get kicked out? Suddenly,
none of them wanted to keep going.
Daisy shook her head, not willing to believe it. No way. How could Lydia's group
take first? Rosie's group was ahead the whole time."
Patricia, covered in dust from
running around, looked at Daisy, her voice shaking. "Daisy... do you think were really going to get expelled?"
Felix and the other boys stood there, stiff with worry. If they really got kicked out, their futures were done for.
Daisy glared at them, furious. "This is all your fault! You're all useless. If you hadn't dragged me down, I wouldn't have lost to Lydia!"
Patricia shrank back, too scared to say a word.
Honestly, the first round had gone so well because of Daisy. She'd given them performance boosters and told them what the challenge would be, so they had a chance to cheat. But this time, they had nothing.
Someone whispered, Daisy, Lydia's win was way too easy. Do you think she cheated?"
Daisy's eyes narrowed. Her fists clenched tight. "Of course she did. Lydia's group must have cheated. We need to report them."
Just as Lydia and her group were about to leave the camp, a few instructors in camouflage uniforms stepped in front of them.
"Lydia, Jules, Monica, Fiona."
The leading man looked at them, his face stern.
Lydia glanced at his shoulder, recognizing the insignia. Wasn't that the camp director, Dennis?
Monica nodded. "Yes, instructor, that's us. We finished the challenge."
