Chapter 618

chapter618

Jenson stood tall, his back straight, practically radiating confidence.

Before he changed the will, he'd made sure to talk to a lawyer. Since Lydia wasn't really a Smith by blood, there were loopholes he could use. That's the only reason he felt brave enough to be so obvious about it.

Lydia stared at Jenson, her eyes cold and sharp. "Then maybe you should ask the woman next to you what she's been up to."

Jenson froze for a second, the meaning sinking in. He turned to Milana, who looked anything but innocent. His voice dropped, tense and accusing. "Was it you?"

No way would Milana admit to anything with this many people watching. She practically screamed, "Jenson! Lydia's just trying to turn us against each other. When your mom had her accident, I was with you. How could it possibly be my fault?

"Jenson, are you really going to believe her over me?

"I've been your wife for twenty years. We've been through everything together. After all we've survived, you still don't believe me?" Her voice cracked and her eyes filled with tears.

Suddenly, Jenson started to doubt himself. Sure, Milana never got along with his mother, but she'd always put their family first. She'd given him kids, built a home with him. There was no way she could do something that awful.

"Milana, I'm sorry, I just..."

"Quit pretending you're innocent. That accident was you and Sandy's plan all along. But you didn't count on me being the one to save Grandma, did you?" Lydia's tone was flat, her words like ice.

Milana's face drained of color. For a second, she looked like she might actually fall apart.

"Lydia! You have no proof. How can you accuse us of something like that?"

For the briefest moment, Milana wondered if Sandy had betrayed her. But no, Sandy wasn't stupid. They were in this together. If Sandy exposed her, she'd be exposing herself, too.

Milana's eyes flicked out to the crowd, searching for Sandy. She couldn't see her anywhere.

Everyone was stunned by Lydia's accusation, even Jenson. He could barely process what he was hearing.

"Lydia! Get out. Leave, right now. We don't need your wild lies."

He could feel the situation slipping out of his control. If Lydia kept

talking, the whole truth might al

out and it would be something they couldn't handle. t

"If you think I'm making things up, why don't you let her answer for herself?"

No! Lydia, you can't just pin this on me with a few words. If you don't have any real evidence, I'll see you in court."

"Who says I don't have evidence?" Lydia replied, her eyes shining with a quiet confidence.

Milana's heart skipped a beat. But she and Sandy had covered their tracks perfectly Even Jenson had never suspected thing. There was no way Lydia had any proof.

She must be bluffing.

So what if Lydia kept pushing? As long as Milana denied everything, there was nothing Lydia could do.

"Please. Lydia, you're sneaky but it

doesn't mean everyone else is. Your grandma fell by accident. The police investigated and said.

Chid so. That's the

truth. Stop trying to blame us."

Jenson's gaze darted between Milana and Lydia. Right now, he honestly didn't know who to believe.

Lydia looked so sure of herself, like she really did have something up her sleeve.

"Mom!"

Suddenly, Luke, who'd been silent the whole time, spoke up, his voice shaking with anger and something else.

Milana's heart jumped. She saw the pain in Luke's eyes, and in that moment, it was like something clicked in her memory.

Her eyes went wide as she stared at him, completely shocked.
