chapter607
Milana could hardly believe it. After just one meeting with Lydia, her own son was already taking Lydia's side. "Luke, she's part of the Norwood family. Of course she has to go back to them. Your sister is Sandy, and you need to accept that. You know, the kidney inside you... that was donated by your real sister."
Trying to make Lydia look bad, Milana had no choice but to praise Sandy in front of Luke. But Luke just looked at her and said, She's the one who did my surgery. If it wasn't for her, I'd be dead."
That left both Milana and Jenson completely speechless.
"Luke, how can you say that? If we hadn't begged her to do the operation, do you think she would have agreed?" Milana's voice was trembling.
Jenson chimed in, Yeah Luke, your sister gave you the kidney, not Lydia."
Luke's face stayed calm. "I know exactly who saved me."
Lydia might have only performed his surgery once and disappeared after that, but Dr. Hady had been looking after him ever since. Luke had heard plenty about Lydia from him.
Milana felt like her whole world was falling apart. Now her son saw Lydia as his savior. What was she supposed to do?
"Luke, did Lydia say something to you today?" Milana tried to keep her nerves in check.
Luke didn't want to talk about it. "No."
Milana wanted to keep pushing, but Jenson stopped her. Let Luke finish his soup first."
So Milana bit back everything she wanted to say, bottling up her anger and letting it all simmer toward Lydia.
After Luke finished his soup, Jenson stayed with him while Milana found an excuse to step out and get some hot water. As soon as she was in the hallway, she called Lydia.
Recently, because Milana had been taking care of Mrs. Smith in the hospital, Lydia finally unblocked Milana's number.
That evening, Connor was invited to dinner at the Norwood house. After work, he picked Lydia up. The moment Lydia got in the car, her phone started ringing.
She glanced at the screen. Milana.
A cold smile touched Lydia's lips as she answered. Before she could say anything, Milana's voice exploded from the other end.
"Lydia! Luke's still recovering and you run to see him, filling his head with your nonsense. How can you be so cruel?"
Lydia let out a chilly laugh. "Is that what you think?"
"Don't try to deny it. Now all Luke talks about is how you're his savior. You know perfectly well how hard we begged you to do that surgery. And now you're letting Luke believe you're some kind of hero. Don't you have any shame? Milana practically screamed, all her pent-up rage bursting out at once.
Lydia's eyes turned sharp and cold. She was just about to answer when Connor
took the phone from her hand.
He spoke directly into the phone, his voice like ice. "You're the ones who should be ashamed. You have no conscience at all. You shouldbe grateful your son is even alive."
Without waiting for a response, Connor hung up. On the other end, Milana was left fuming, wishing she could storm over and scream at Lydia in person.
Connor looked at Lydia. "Don't even waste your time with them. Just send them in jail."
He knew exactly what Jenson and
Milana had been up to. The only reason they'd managed to hide
assets and sell off shares was because Lydia had looked the other way. And now they were so sure of themselves.
Lydia's eyes were cold as she nodded. "Let them enjoy themselves for a couple more days."
Luke's birthday was coming up. That's when she'd make sure they landed in jail.
She hesitated for a second. But..... Grandma still hasn't woken up. Sandy's been really careful. There hasn't been much progress on her end."
