chapter540
Jenson just froze. For a second, he couldn't even process what Sandy had just said. Did she really not care at all? These were her real parents. Lydia had practically hurt them into being bedridden, and Sandy couldn't even pretend to care?
"Sandy, you "
Before Jenson could get another word out, Milana snatched the phone, her voice shaking with fury. "You listen to me! How are you any better than Lydia? We are your parents. We need you now, and this is how you treat us?"
Milana already felt like she was about to faint. Sandy's attitude was the last straw- her head was spinning.
Sandy didn't back down. "There is a difference between me and Lydia. At least I wasn't raised by you, but she was. If you want someone to care for you, call Lydia. Or maybe your precious son. I've already done more than enough for you."
She hung up right then, leaving Jenson and Milana so furious they nearly passed out.
"That girl! How could she do this to us!" Milana was shaking, the pain in her body forgotten as she forced herself upright. If she hadn't been feeling so awful, she would have marched upstairs and given Sandy a piece of her mind.
Jenson didn't have the energy to argue anymore. He just sighed. "Let's just wait for the ambulance to take us to the hospital."
He knew Sandy was mad about the twenty million they'd forced her to hand over today.
Milana was just about losing it. This was the daughter they'd searched so hard to find? What had they done to deserve this? Was every child they raised this heartless?
Back in her room, Sandy tossed her phone aside and let out a cold laugh. "When I was stuck in a hospital bed needing someone to look after me, did they ever care if ? i if lived or died? Now that they need something, I'm suddenly supposed to be the good daughter? Not a chance."
She still felt angry, so she muttered under her breath, "Hope it hurts so bad they can't stand it. Serves them right."
A little while later, Sandy heard the wail of an ambulance outside. After a bunch of chaos, Jenson and Milana were hauled off to the hospital.
Two days later, a rumor started making its way around the Capital. Word was that a group of secret assassins had slipped into the country and were now biding out all over the city. People said they'd been sent by some foreign power, maybe to steal secrets opeven take out high-ranking officials.
At first, it was just gossip. But then, an anonymous user online leaked surveillance footage. Even though the assassins had been careful, they still left some clues behind.
Panic spread fast. Government officials were the most on edge, scared they might get picked off just walking down the street.
After all this went down, Lydia's phone wouldn't stop ringing. She ignored every call, basically going off the grid. Anyone who really knew her probably guessed she was behind it but she wasn't about to explain herself-not yet.
The government had to do something to calm everyone down, so they issued a citywide search order.
Lydia had stayed up most of the night working on medicine for Connor's eyes. When she finally woke up, she found a message from Iceblade: [That's ruthless.]
She scoffed and typed back: [If Blood Oath caught a traitor, what do you think they'd do?]
Truth was, Lydia had no clue what Iceblade was really after. He always insisted he was Blood Oath for life, that he'd never leave. So why was he secretly leaking their plans to her, giving her a head start to prepare?
