chapter518
When Lucinda said that, everyone's faces relaxed with relief. Blake gave her an approving nod. "That's the right attitude. The Norwood family can absolutely support you, so just focus on what you love. School comes first."
Lucinda nodded earnestly. "I will."
All four of her brothers were basically geniuses, and Lydia was on another level. She was the same age as Lucinda but had already accomplished things most people couldn't pull off in several lifetimes. Lucinda had made up her mind. She would learn from Lydia. She wanted to get better at everything and didn't want Lydia to leave her in the dust.
Back in her room, Lucinda let out a heavy sigh. For the first time in a while, she felt like she had a goal again, a sense of motivation building up inside her.
But then, to her surprise, Grace, who had always been her biggest supporter, closed the door behind her and hurried over, looking anxious. Lucinda, what are you thinking?"
Lucinda caught the worry in Grace's eyes and gave a small, helpless sigh. "Grace, I just... I really don't want to get into any kind of relationship right now."
She still couldn't get over Connor. The thought of accepting someone new felt impossible. Besides, it wasn't like Mikey liked her that way. Why should she set herself up for disappointment?
Grace was so flustered, she couldn't even find the right words. She took a deep breath and tried to steady her voice. "Lucinda, if you don't try to marry into the Jefferson family now, while you're still a Norwood, how will you ever find a family that good later on?"
"Grace, it's not like I have to marry someone from the Jeffersons. I'm only eighteen. There's plenty of time to think about marriage after college."
"But do you really think you'll be able to stay in the Norwood family for that long?"
Lucinda hesitated, then said, "Mom and Dad already told me I'll always be their daughter. I can stay as long as I want."
Grace was so frustrated she nearly slapped her own leg. "But Lucinda, with how things are between you and Lydia, do you really think she'll let you stay with the Norwoods forever?"
Lucinda grew quiet, thinking it over. "If I can get Lydia to accept me, I know she'll let me stay."
Grace looked like she might faint from exasperation. "Lucinda, can't you see they're just telling you what you want to hear? All those promises, it's just to stop you from competing with Lydia."
Lucinda lowered her head. "Grace, I want to try. I want to give them a chance. I know you care about me, but please, just respect my choice."
Grace worried Lucinda would stop listening to her completely, so she decided to back off. "Alright, Lucinda If that's how you feel, L won't
I say anything else. But you
should give it a time limit. You need
to figure out if they really mean what they say, and if Lydia will ever consider you a real sister."
Lucinda nodded. "Okay."
Three days flew by. Lydia spent most of that time at Connor's place, looking after him. She only went back to the Norwood house twice, each time just to grab the rare herbs she'd brought back from the Triangle.
With so much free time, Lydia set up a little medical room in Connor's villa, so she could mix his medicine and treat his eyes more easily.
No one from Blood Oath showed up. Iceblade didn't appear either. It was peaceful for once.
But peace never lasted long. After three days, Connor got a call from Lakeview Town. Jenson and Milana were back at it, harassing Mrs. Smith, and nothing could make them leave.
Connor had recovered well over
those days and could move around without trouble. As soon as he heard Mrs Smith was being bothered. again he didnt even think. He grabbed Lydia and they took the helicopter straight to Lakeview Town.
Lydia knew she couldn't stop him, so she just went with him. Twenty minutes later, they landed.
Jenson and Milana had already
barged into the courtyard, and Sandy was right there with them.
Sandy had just gotten out of the net
hospital that day and immediately teamed up with her parents to
demand Mrs. Smith hand over her
shares in the company.
