chapter458
To Lucinda, playing the piano was definitely not something you could pick up overnight. If you wanted to be truly great, you had to put in the work from the time you were a kid, just like she had. As for Lydia, well, she was just an uncultured country girl. Lucinda was convinced there wasn't a musical bone in her body.
Kylie paused for a second, then said, Your sister is always so busy. She doesn't have time for these kinds of hobbies."
Cameron, sitting next to Connor, quickly chimed in, "Exactly. If Lydia ever wanted to learn, we could bring in Maestro Richie to teach her. She's smart enough, I'm sure she'd do well."
Lucinda couldn't help but scoff to herself. Lydia just didn't have any music talent. Why did her parents sugarcoat it with all these fancy excuses? The whole group was so obviously biased toward Lydia, it was ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Lydia and Iceblade had already found Chris. He and his teammates were dressed in their racing suits, but two of them looked awful slumped back in their chairs, faces pale as ghosts.
"Lydia!" Chris spotted her and hurried over, glancing at Iceblade following behind. "Who's this?"
"This is Jay. He's a racer too."
Chris' eyes lit up. "Seriously?"
"Yeah. But first, let me check on those two."
Lydia walked over to the pale teammates. "What did you guys eat this morning?"
"We had breakfast with Chris. Then, a little while ago, we got thirsty and drank half a bottle of water."
"Where's the water?"
Chris grabbed the bottle and handed it to her. Lydia twisted off the cap, took a sniff, and let out a cold laugh. Just as I thought."
Chris frowned. "Lydia, is something wrong with the water?"
"There's magnesium sulfate in here. It's a laxative. Right now, it's just stomach cramps, but in about five or ten minutes, you'll both be running for the bathroom.
"But the bottle was sealed when we opened it."
"It's possible to open it, add the drug, and reseal it so no one can tell," Lydia said. Looks like Team Country D came ready to play dirty."
"So... what about the race?" The two
drivers looked miserable. The team had worked so hard for this,
prepar
aring for so long. After Lydia's, advice last night, they actually believed they could finally beat Country D today. Now, they'd been sabotaged.
I have medicine in my bag. Take it now. Jay and I will fill in for you guys.
There wasn't much time. The race was about to start, so the best she could do was give them something to control the symptoms.
"Lydia, thank you! If it wasn't for you, we'd have ruined everything."
"It's not your fault. Team Country D is just sneaky and underhanded."
Lydia looked at Chris and the other two, Weston and Arden. "When the race starts, just focus on your own driving. Let Jay and me handle Team Country D."
Iceblade rolled his eyes. Was she always this bossy? If he'd known he'd have to drive for free, he wouldn't have bothered showing up. He was worth a lot more than this.
Lydia, you..... be careful too," Chris said, feeling guilty for asking for her help again.
"Don't worry about me. You're all great drivers. I believe in you."
Lydia and Iceblade went to change into their team's racing suits. When Lydia walked out, Chris and the others were completely stunned She looked like she was born for the track, confident and strong, the kind of woman who could take on anyone.
Under her helmet, her eyes shone with determination, bright and sharp. like stars. The fabric of her suit looked sleek and high-tech, every detail designed for speed. Just standing there, she gave off this unstoppable energy, like she was ready to rule the race and push every limit.
"Get in your cars."
Chris led the team to the starting area. Every driver had to go through an inspection. When the officials checked Lydia's license, their jaws dropped. They practically did a double-take.
That couldn't be right, could it?
NO1.
She was actually the world-famous racing legend, NO1.
Oh my God. Was this real? Were they dreaming?
Excuse me, ma'am, could we take a picture with you?"
