chapter455
That whole line made Connor give Jay another look, this time with obvious jealousy
in his eyes.
Cameron's attitude shifted too, warming up right away. After all, this guy was someone Mrs. Smith often looked after, and he'd basically grown up with Lydia. There was no way they could treat him like a stranger.
"So, what's your name? Are you here in France for business too?" Cameron asked.
Jay answered easily, "Sir, I'm Jay. I came to France to watch the car race. Lydia told me you were all going, so I figured I'd say hi and join you guys for the day."
Jay seemed super outgoing and easy to talk to. He was young, good-looking-he honestly had that college guy vibe. People just instantly warmed up to him.
Well, what a coincidence. We're just about to have breakfast. Why don't you join us?" Kylie said with a friendly smile.
Jay flashed a grin and nodded. Sure, if you don't mind, I'd love to come along."
Connor's dark eyes narrowed a little more. This Jay guy looked harmless, even innocent, but Connor wasn't buying it. Anyone who had supposedly grown up with Lydia wasn't going to be ordinary. And Jay just popped up out of nowhere. Lydia had never mentioned him before. Then again, what did Connor really know about Lydia's past?
"Lydia, how come you didn't mention your cousin was coming to the race with us?" Connor finally asked, not bothering to hide his suspicion.
Lydia's voice stayed gentle. "He only got to France really late last night. I just found out he'd be at the race too."
Jay gave Lydia a look loaded with meaning. "What should I call this gentleman? Uncle...?"
Now Connor finally understood what it meant to be stabbed right in the heart. He was sure this so-called cousin was messing with him on purpose.
Kylie and Cameron exchanged a surprised glance. Uncle? Sure, Connor was a bit older than Lydia, but he didn't give off "uncle" vibes at all.
Blake, off to the side, started watching Jay more closely. This
cousin seemed a little off to him, bet
Since Lydra was okay with Jay
tagging along, Blake figured he'd let
it slide. As long as this guy didn't stir up trouble.
"Maybe your eyesight isn't so great. I'm Lydia's fianc ," Connor said, his tone icy.
Jay looked genuinely shocked, like he couldn't believe what he'd just heard. "Wait, fianc ? Lydia's only eighteen. May I ask, Uncle, just how old are you?"
A muscle jumped in Connor's jaw. If Lydia's parents weren't standing right there, he would've decked this cheeky brat already.
"Alright, he's just joking. Don't take it seriously," Lydia cut in before Jay could push it any further. She tugged Connor's sleeve, trying to calm him down.
Cameron burst out laughing. "See, Jay here has got a real sense of humor."
Connor couldn't help finding Jay more and more irritating, and he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something dangerous about this guy. It was like Jay knew all his secrets. Still, now wasn't the time to grill Lydia about lay identity ff day really did grow up in Lakeview Town, then that's where Connor would start digging for answers.
Just then, Lucinda came running over, all smiles. "Sorry to keep you waiting Mom, Dad, Blake, Connor." As she got closer she realized there was someone new standing with them.
"Mom, Dad, who's this?"
Jay beamed at Lucinda, his voice turning soft and gentle. Hi, Miss. I'm Lydia's
cousin."
