chapter327
But now, it was obvious there was no next step.
Aiden and Andrew wasted no time tracking down the number. Just like Lydia said, the person was in Lakeview Town.
To save time, Aiden sent the number to Lydia so she could pinpoint the exact location. She guided them right to it.
When Aiden and his guys finally arrived, though, it was already too late. The person was dead.
He had jumped from the roof of a rundown five-story building. The scene was brutal, blood and brain matter everywhere.
The victim was a man, probably in his forties or fifties.
Aiden was frustrated and called Lydia right away. "Lydia, he's dead.
Lydia let out a short, cold laugh. Who was behind all this? Was it really worth someone's life?
"Find out who he was. I want all the information you can get. Send it to me."
"Got it."
Connor watched Lydia, thinking hard. "Did you have any serious enemies at school?"
Lydia thought about it. "Not really. Nothing major. Even if someone had a grudge, I doubt they'd go this far."
"Could it be from when you hacked the police system? Maybe someone found out who you are?"
Lydia shook her head. "I don't think so. If it was those people, they wouldn't bother with so many twists and turns."
Connor nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
"Tell Aiden and the others to come back. We've hit a dead end. I'll try to visit Lakeview Town myself in the next couple of days."
Connor's eyes narrowed. "Have Aiden stay and keep digging. He doesn't come back until he finds something."
They'd been so close to finding the mastermind, only to lose everything in a moment.
Aiden felt a chill run down his spine.
Later that day, Garrett had a flight to catch, and Lydia had promised she'd see him off at the airport.
Connor just wanted to spend more time with Lydia. He looked at her, full of hope. "Can I come with you?"
Lydia was a little caught off guard.
"Aiden's not at the office. Don't you have to be there?"
"There are other people who can handle it. I'm leaving on a business trip soon and might not see you for a while."
Connor was supposed to leave a couple of days ago, but he kept putting it off. He just didn't want to be away from Lydia.
Lydia couldn't say no, so she took him along to the hospital. Plus, with all the stuff online, her parents and Garrett were worried too.
They got to the hospital and stepped
out of the elevator, only to run
straight into Jenson and Milana.
Talk about running into trouble at
the worst moment.
As soon as Milana saw Lydia and Connor, she lost it.
"Lydia, you total cheater! You
couldn't get a good grade on your own, so you had to use dirty tricks for a perfect score? Because of you, my phone hasn't stopped ringing!
Lydia just looked at her like she was completely clueless, not even wasting her breath to answer.
֧
Connor's expression turned cold. "Ma'am, sounds like your phone is ancient and your internet is slow. Maybe you should get a new one, Also, next time you leave home. mak
sure you remember your brain."
Milana was stunned. She never expected Connor, who looked so distant and serious, to be so savage.
She was so mad she could hardly speak.
"You... you still believe her? Or are you just covering up for her cheating?"
Connor couldn't be bothered to argue. He wanted to shut her up for good.
He took out his phone, pulled up a saved page, and flashed it at Milana, looking completely calm and cool.
He only held it out for a few seconds before putting it away, but both Milana and Jenson saw what was on the screen.
International Olympiad first prize. Some outstanding achievement award. Genius. Prodigy.
Both of them stared, dumbfounded.
Who was all that about?
Lydia, the big cheater?
