Chapter 310

chapter310

The person inside was on the phone and jumped in shock when someone barged in. In a panic, she shoved the phone under her pillow.

Lydia let out a cold laugh. "What are you hiding?"

Sandy had never expected Lydia to show up disappearing for almost two days. Her face went even paler, guilt written all over her.

"What do you want? Here to watch me fall apart? Go ahead then, laugh all you want. I'm already miserable."

She turned away, refusing to meet Lydia's eyes. There was something about the way Lydia looked at her, those deep, sharp eyes, as if she could see right through her.

"Why did you do it?" Lydia asked, cutting straight to the chase.

Sandy's heart skipped, but she kept her head turned. Do what? I have no idea what you're talking about."

Lydia just raised an eyebrow. "You weren't just talking to a troll farm, trying to ruin my name? Ten million, wasn't it? Looks like Jenson and Milana paid you well for that kidney."

Sandy spun around, glaring at her. "Shut up! If you all hadn't dragged me back here with your lies, do you think I'd have lost a kidney?"

Lydia's stare was icy. "First, it was Jenson and Milana who brought you back, not me. Second, didn't you sign the form yourself?"

Sandy sat up suddenly, too fast. Pain shot through her side, draining all the color from her face.

"Lydia, you knew from the start. They only wanted me back for my kidney, and you said nothing. You just watched me walk straight into their trap. Her voice was raw, thick with pain.

No one knew how much she hated the Smith family now. She hated all of them, even Lydia, who wasn't even a Smith anymore.

Lydia scoffed "You didn't seem to mind the Smiths' fancy life before. Now, you know the truth, and suddenly it's all my fault? You've got a lot onerve you really didn't want to donate, you could've just refused to sign. If they forced you, you could have called the cops. But you didn't."

Sandy's eyes filled with tears. "They made me do it. And that surgery, no one but Miracle Hands could have pulled it off. Why did you have do it? If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have lost my kidney. You're the one who Whort took it out and gave it to Luke. Tell me, how am I supposed to forgive you?"

"Sandy, you made your choice. You traded your kidney for money. Don't act like the victim here. If you hadn't signed that paper and begged me to do the surgery, I would never have touched you."

She threw ten million at that troll farm. If Jenson and Milana hadn't given her a pile of cash, what would she have to throw around?

Sandy's tears slid down her cheeks. "I was forced. Can't you understand that?"

Lydia just watched her, her face unreadable. If it were me, if I didn't want to do something, nothing would make me agree. You could put a knife to my throat, promise me all the money in the world, and my answer would still be no."

Sandy's eyes darted away, her voice small. That's easy for you to say. You're not me."

And if I did sign, I'd own up to it. I wouldn't sit around blaming everyone else and feeling sorry for myself."

Sandy swiped at her tears, frustration sharp in her voice. "You're saying that because it didn't happen to you. What if we hadn't been switched at birth? What then?"

Lydia's voice was calm, almost

bored. "I've already said it. There's no such thing as 'what if.' Going back to the Smiths was your decision, not mine. I'm giving you seven days. When you're discharged, the police will be waiting."

She didn't bother saying anything else and turned to go.

Sandy called after her, desperate. "Lydia! I'm still your patient. If my wound doesn't heal, you'll be held responsible as the lead surgeon. Don't think being Miracle Hands' student will save you!"
