Chapter 255

chapter255

"I'm serious. Sierra told me herself," Miranda insisted, sounding almost desperate

now.

Louise didn't even look up from her game. "No way. I don't buy it." She tapped away at her screen, acting as if nothing in the world could bother her. The only thing she cared about was making that girl who hit her come over and apologize.

Miranda was about to say something else when there was a knock at the door.

She turned around and instantly felt her heart drop.

"Police. Is this Louise's room?"

That got Louise's attention. She lifted her head and saw two officers in uniform. She assumed they must have come on her uncle's orders. "Yeah, I'm Louise. Did my uncle send you? Where's that girl? Why didn't you bring her here so she could confess and apologize?"

Miranda quickly snapped, "Louise, don't say another word."

Louise just shrugged, totally unfazed. I'm just saying what's true. Didn't Uncle say she was taken to the station already? Why isn't she here yet? I want to go home. I can't stand it here. It's awful."

The two officers didn't respond, letting Louise talk, just listening to see if she would slip up and say something useful.

Miranda, remembering what her husband had told her, stepped forward and scolded, Louise! You're still hurt. Quit messing around."

That finally made Louise pause. She remembered that Miranda had told her to cooperate with the officers and not let them realize she was faking.

She muttered, "Okay, I get it."

One of the officers came over and showed his badge. "I'm Ashton, and this is Emilio."

"We're with the First Detective Unit. We'll be handling your case from now on."

Miranda felt her mind go completely blank. She stared at them, stunned. "Wait..... why? Officers, what's going on?"

Could it be true? Had her husband

been right all along? Was her brother actually arrested? Was that why the case got handed over to the First Wait? This couldnt be happening Louise wasn't actually hurt. If the First Unit took over, everything would come out. Content

"It's an order from above. We're just following instructions. Ma'am, could you please

let Louise explain what happened, in her own words, so we can take her

statement?"

Miranda felt all the color drain from her face.

Louise, completely clueless about

what was really going on, just thought it was a simple handover. Her uncle was the deputy chief. Passing the case to a colleague must be for appearances-just a routine statement. That girl was already at the station anyway once she gave her statement, she could finally get out of this miserable

hospital.

"It was her. She attacked me right in front of the Greenward Power building. All my friends were there. They can vouch for me."

Ashton and Emilio took notes, looking serious. "Where did you get hurt?"

"My back," Louise replied, and sat straight up on the bed, not looking at all like someone with a back injury.

She noticed the way they looked at her and, feeling awkward, lay back down. "She was totally out of control. She kicked me so hard I went flying. I couldn't even get up."

"What about the medical report?"

Louise froze, then glanced at Miranda for help.

Miranda faltered, unable to say a word. They hadn't actually done any examination. They thought Allen's

connections would be enough to handle everything.

Who would have thought the case would end up with the First Unit?

Ashton and Emilio exchanged a look. So, there's no medical report?

Sweat started to bead at Miranda's hairline. My... my daughter was in so much pain, she couldn't move, so..."
