chapter247
At the Capital's central police command, rows of officers in uniform stared at the
giant screen, all eyes locked on the chaos of an interrogation that felt almost unreal. At the front, a man in his early fifties with a square jaw and stern look Commissioner Clark, the same one who'd called Officer Byrne-watched with a
clenched jaw.
"Find out who this girl is, right now."
Someone had hacked into the entire Capital police system. That wasn't something to take lightly.
"Yes, Sir."
Meanwhile, Connor's phone buzzed with a message from Mikey, a link attached. Connor didn't bother opening it. He just sent back a quick voice note. "What is it?
Mikey's reply came fast. Saw it during a meeting with the police. Thought you'd want to see. The only reason he'd sent it was because the girl's voice in the video sounded way too much like Lydia.
Connor shot back, "If it's official business, you don't need to send it to me." Ever since he stepped away from that world three years ago, Connor kept his focus on business and stayed clear of anything military or political. If it wasn't his concern, he didn't want to know.
Mikey just shook his head, half smiling, half helpless. His brother could be so stubborn. He typed another message. "It's about Lydia. Up to you."
The truth was, Lydia never failed to surprise Mikey. Everything from the motorcycle incident showed that she was never just an ordinary girl. Hacking the Country D Embassy's security, now the entire Capital police system-was there anything she couldn't do?
Connor paused when he heard Mikey's last message. Something about Lydia? He instantly tapped the link.
The screen filled with footage from inside a police station. A burly man in a police uniform waved a baton, his face twisted in anger. "You want our chief to stand up for you? Wh odo you think you are?"
A familiar clear voice cut through the noise. "As the chief of the Fifth Division, isn't it his job to protect the people? I'm being forced to confess to something I didn't do. Why shouldn't I ask him for help?
Connor's heart stopped. Lydia was at the station. She'd been arrested. They were forcing her to confess.
Unbelievable! These people really didn't know when to quit. How dare they touch his girl?
Corbyn looked like he was about to explode. He jabbed his baton toward Lydia. "Who do you think you are? You
You can just waltz in and
see the chief? Everything we do goes through him. Get it? He's not
someone you can just meet because you want to."
He sneered, like he thought he'd already won.
Lydia just smiled, her eyes sharp. "So what you're saying is, all this, the way you're treating me, it's all with his permission?"
Corbyn's face darkened. This girl's mouth was dangerous, every word right on target.
"Don't get mad, I'm just curious. If I'm not good enough to see him, then who is? "You definitely aren't. Now hurry up and sign!" Corbyn was losing his patience.
Lydia didn't even blink. "What about Parker? Is he good enough?"
The name caught Corbyn off guard. He stared at Lydia, suddenly unsure of himself,
a bad feeling creeping in.
"You... you know Parker?"
Lydia nodded, calm as ever. Yeah.
Corbyn's nerves were shot.

Something felt very wrong, but she was just a normal girl, no family backing, nothing specialon paper What could she really do?
"What's your relationship with Parker? If you're hoping he'll bail you out forget it. He can't even helpt himself right now. Why am event telling you this? Last warning. If you don't sign, don't blame me for what happens next." Corbyn's voice shook with frustration.
