chapter206
Since they were standing right in front of the Norwood family's main gate, the camera caught everything perfectly. The picture was clear, and you could hear every
word.
Lucinda never actually said she was the goddaughter. But when Parker and Rose guessed it out loud, Lucinda didn't correct them. In fact, you could tell by the look on her face and the way she acted that they'd guessed right.
That's how Rose and Parker ended up convinced she was the Norwood family's goddaughter.
If someone brought that video out as proof, and Lucinda just kept denying it, even the police wouldn't be able to do much. The word "goddaughter" never once left her lips.
"The police will figure out what really happened," Lydia said, setting down her fork and knife. She looked over at Cameron and Kylie. "I'm done. Please excuse me."
If Rose and Parker were determined to believe Lucinda misled them, then it would be up to Lucinda to clear her own name with the police.
Lydia's words left Lucinda feeling uneasy.
But then she thought, I'm the heiress of the wealthiest family in the city. With my parents and grandpa backing me up, as long as I stick to my story, what could the police actually do?
Lydia was just trying to scare her. It wouldn't work.
A few minutes later, Jack called Kylie to say he was waiting at the hospital entrance with a whole carload of gifts.
Right then, Connor called Lydia to let her know he had arrived.
Lydia was about to say she'd come downstairs, but Connor just laughed and told her, "I'm already in the elevator. I'll be up in a second."
Lydia blinked in surprise.
After she hung up, Kylie noticed the look on Lydia's face and asked, "What's up, Lydia? Is Connor stuck in traffic or something?"
Lydia shook her head. "He's already on his way up."
Lucinda felt her heart skip a beat. She couldn't believe she was about to see Connor again.
She'd missed him so much these past few days that she'd barely been able to sleep.
She glanced down and realized she hadn't really dressed up today. Her dress was a little too casual, and she immediately regretted not putting in more effort before leaving the house.
Making an excuse about needing the restroom, she rushed off to fix her makeup.
Connor showed up soon after, his arms full of gifts. He came alone. Aiden wasn't with him.
Lydia wondered if he'd driven himself.
"Connor, look at all this! Thank you for these gifts," she said.
Cameron and Kylie hurried to take the gifts from him.
"I haven't had a chance to visit Grandpa Wayne these past couple of days, so I wanted to stop by," Connor said.
He was like a different person,
nothing like his usual cold and

distant self. There was a new
wanath in his voice and the way he smiled
When they walked into the hospital room, Connor realized something was off. Mr. Norwood wasn't there.
"Did Grandpa Wayne go for some tests?" he asked, looking puzzled.
Cameron and Kylie exchanged a helpless glance, neither sure how to break the
news.
"Did something happen?" Connor pressed, catching on that something wasn't right. "He just got out of surgery not long ago. He's in the ICU," Cameron finally said.
Connor's brows knit together. Mr. Norwood was already old, and this was his second surgery in just a few days.
Kylie gave him a quick rundown of

Connor was at a loss for words.
Lucinda had been spoiled her whole life. She probably couldn't even take care of herself, let alone look after someone who'd just had surgery. It was a recipe for disaster.
For a moment, Connor honestly felt sorry for Mr. Norwood. The poor old man had
suffered at Lucinda's hands not once, but twice.
"When will he wake up?" Connor asked quietly.
