chapter1111
"Let's talk about it at the station," the officer said.
Just like that, Lucinda was escorted away by the police.
Cameron and Kylie rushed back to their rooms, quickly changed clothes, and hurried to the station.
The interrogation room was cold and sterile, with a harsh light shining right on Lucinda's pale face. Lydia sat quietly to the side, her eyes steady and calm as she watched her.
"So, do you have anything you want to say?" Lydia's voice was even, but there was an edge to it that made Lucinda shrink inside.
Lucinda bit her lip, feeling embarrassed in a way she never had before. "Lydia, I was just worried about you. I was afraid something might happen to you. That's all, I swear."
She was lucky she hadn't said much during that call with Grace. She held on to that, refusing to admit to anything more.
Lydia let out a short, cold laugh. Did you really think I wouldn't find out just because you and Grace deleted your messages? You have no idea what your phones really showed me."
Lucinda's face turned even paler, almost see-through. She squeezed her hands together, her palms slick with sweat. All she could think about was Lydia using this as a reason to kick her out of the Norwood family. If that happened, she would lose everything.
Lydia had already recovered Grace's chat logs. There was everything-Grace hiring escorts, having people following Lydia, and the two of them plotting how to ruin Lydia's reputation. Lydia hadn't bothered to dig up anything older. Tonight, there was more than enough.
She didn't actually want to kick Lucinda out, at least not yet. She wanted her parents to see Lucinda's true colors for themselves. After all, they had loved Lucinda for eighteen years. They'd need time to face the truth.
When Kylie and Cameron read the messages on Grace's phone, their anger was impossible to hide.
"Lucinda! How could you... how could you go behind our backs and team up with Grace to hurt your own sister?" Cameron's voice shook with fury.
Lucinda shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "No, that's not it, Dad, Mom, please, you have to believe me. Tonight, I really was just worried about Lydia."
Lydia let out a little laugh. "And the detailed plans in your chats with Grace about how to ruin me? Was that just you being worried about me too?"
Lucinda's face was so pale it looked like she might faint. Sweat dotted her forehead as she stammered, "That... that was just a stupid mistake. Lydia, I'm sorry. Dad, Mom, please forgive me."
She dropped to her knees with a thud and started bowing her head to the floor over and over. The sound echoed in the room, and soon, her forehead was bright red.
"Dad, Mom, I'm sorry. I made a mistake. This is all my fault. I just wasn't thinking."
When it looked like Lucinda was
about to hurt herself, one of the officers quickly pulled her up and sat her back in the chair This was still a
police station. They couldn't just der her hurt herself right in front of them.
Cameron was shaking with anger, his finger pointed straight at
Lucinda. Lucinda, we've spoiled you far too much. You took our love for granted and used it as an excuse to do whatever you wanted."
Taking advantage of their love, she refused to accept Lydia and even tried so hard
to ruin her.
Kylie watched Lucinda with a mix of
heartbreak and disappointment.
"Lucinda your father, your
grandfather, your brothers,
have loved you since you were?ittle.
Even after Lydia came back, we
never wanted to let you go.
"We never thought you'd do something like this to her, again and again. If you can't accept having Lydia as your sister, maybe... maybe it's time for you to leave the Norwood family."
