chapter1057
Cameron suddenly remembered something Lydia had mentioned earlier.
"Lydia, what did you mean about him causing trouble at the LYLX office and asking you for money?"
Before Lydia could answer, Frank jumped in quickly. I was having some health issues back then. I didn't want to bother Lucinda, so I thought I'd ask Lydia for a small loan since she's Lucinda's sister. But in the end, Lydia didn't give me anything. I didn't get a single cent from her."
As he finished talking, you could hear a hint of complaint in his voice, like he was blaming Lydia for being stingy.
Lydia just rolled her eyes. "That's not what you said at the time. The company's security cameras caught everything. Should I show everyone the footage?"
Frank went quiet, suddenly looking nervous. Grace and Lucinda had been right. Lydia wasn't someone you could mess with so easily.
Now, even Kylie and Cameron could see that Frank's story didn't add up. Besides, they knew Lydia would never falsely accuse someone.
"Since you're Lucinda's real father, it doesn't feel right to have you working here," Cameron said. And you did help the old man today, so we'll give you five million. Go home, take care of yourself, and live comfortably. That way, Lucinda won't have to worry about you."
They really treated Lucinda like family, so they were willing to be generous to her father too.
Frank hadn't expected Kylie and Cameron to be so generous, just offering five million like it was nothing. In the past, he would've grabbed the money and disappeared. But now, he wanted a lot more than just five million.
"Sir, Ma'am, I... I didn't come here for money. I just want to see Lucinda once in a while. I'm all alone in the countryside, what would I even do with that much money?"
He started dabbing at his eyes, pretending to be emotional.
Kylie and Cameron exchanged glances. If Frank stayed and kept working as a gardener, Lucinda might think they were mistreating her real father. And if word got out, people would talk about how the Norwood family made their daughter's father work as a gardener for them.
Lydia clapped her hands slowly. "Wow. That was quite a performance. I almost believed you."
Kylie looked at her, confused. "Lydia, are you saying he's..."
Frank felt furious. Could Lydia just give it a rest already? He'd already turned down five million, what else did she want from him?
"He's just putting on an act. Don't take him seriously," Lydia said.
Frank shot her a glare, his voice indignant. "Lydia, I'm telling the truth, every word!"
Lydia let out a cold laugh. "If everything you're saying is true, then why did you hurt Grandpa? Why did you make him fall, then act all caring and help him up just to get credit?"
Frank looked genuinely offended, as if he'd been terribly wronged.
"Lydia! I helped him out of kindness, and now you're accusing me of hurting him? swear on everything, you can't just use your status to bully people like me!"
Frank turned to Kylie and Cameron, his face full of outrage. "Sir, Ma'am, I have nothing to hide. Please check footage. See-for
the securi did anything to Mr.
yourselves ift
Norwood!"
At this point, things had gotten pretty heated, so Kylie and Cameron quickly told someone to go pull the footage.
Lydia didn't seem worried at all. She glanced at the flower arbor, then walked over to it.
Frank felt a wave of panic and wanted to follow her, but if he did, it would look suspicious. So he stayed put, looking anxious and uneasy.
Lydia reached the arbor, walked over to a patch of flowers near a lounge chair, and took out a small gardening trowel. She started digging in the soil.
Sure enough, she found bits of fine, white powder mixed in with the dirt around the green plants.
